What I think...

I wish that we had been able to try out our GAME plan during the school year. I think that for me, having direct contact with my coworkers would have helped me to better achieve my goal of professional growth and leadership. Taking action is much easier when you have willing, reliable resources in the other room. ☺ Maybe not willing…

However, going through the GAME plan model will certainly help me gain perspective with my students. I’m thinking that it would be a fabulous idea to have them create their own GAME plan, especially as we enter new units. This way I can have them evaluating and monitoring their own work, which will help my students to become self-directed learners. According to Cennamo, Ross, and Ertmer (2009), “self-directed, metacognitive learners engage in three key processes: planning, monitoring, and evaluating their learning activities” (p.3).

  1. Val,
I like the idea that you would have your students create "mini GAME Plans" for the units. Would you be creating some type of graphic organizer or poster to put in your room so that they have some type of visual? What about creating bookmarks that they can have on them as they keep their places, use it as a reference tool, or even as a guide for them during the school year.
You have a good idea. I wonder how you will see the growth in them during the year. It would be interesting for you to touch base with us and let us know!

  2. Valerie, teaching our students how to become self-directed learners using technology is a big part of the GAME plan. I like you idea of having your students create their own game plan. Could you have one GAME plan for all students to follow and then have your students create their own as the year progresses? Using a GAME plan will definitely get them prepared for integrating technology use in your content.

Having had the opportunity to be introduced to the GAME Plan must be a wonderful experience for us all.

I am glad that I can now use it with my own children. I have plans to improve my personal GAME Plan thus enabling me to better monitor my students with theirs.

I see that you have taken to this new concept, I hope that as you work with and through it success will be achieved by all. Continue to work for the advancement of all your brilliant students.
